Action Learning Groups
We specialise in facilitating Action Learning Groups. This is a powerful way to work with a group of individuals or a teams to shift thinking and behaviors to a higher level of cooperation.
The process involves training the group with the basic skills of coaching so that they can coach each other. They learn skills like calibrated questioning, tactical empathy, thinking and behavioral pattern recognition and active listening.
The group then coach the individuals in the group one at a time. Roles that people may have held within the group or team are deconstructed as the emphasis is shifted to being a skillful listener and questioner.
Individuals practice the skills of emotional intelligence through this process. The tone of the group is raised to the level of the most skilled listener and questioner. Individuals being coached explore the issue they are having through multiple lenses and it opens up their perspective on what their challenges are. The group learn about how others think and behave and can reflect this learning back on themselves.
The outcome is a deep understanding of ones self, others and the specific actions that will directly and powerfully impact targets.
The process for a group/team of four will typically take six sessions, for two hours, once a week. This allows for an initial training session, four sessions of coaching and a debriefing session. The process can be tailored to suit different group sizes and timeline.

Team Coaching
When work with teams we work with them on three levels. On the level of the individual, the level of the team and on the level of the organisation. A team can develop a ‘‘personality’’ of its own and all the individuals play a part. Understanding these facets of the team’s personality is key to success.
First we measure the teams current situation through a results audit, feedback, and team input. We look at the purpose of the team within the orgnisation, and how team members identify with that purpose. We help teams identify their purpose and explore how they work into it together.
We work with the individuals and see what mode they are working in. Do they operate in the Dependent, Independent or Interdependent mode? Individuals who work interdependently within the team are the building blocks. if not we can explore the skills that individuals’ can develop to benefit them individually, as well as the team.
We explore the team’s ‘‘personality’’ within the organisation. How they are perceived and what roll they play in the ‘‘big picture’’. We measure the teams values against the organisation’s and get a sense of how they see themselves fitting in. Developing the team’s self awareness as a team can help shift the focus from individual thinking to team thinking.
We use practical activities and team challenges to help reframe the purpose if the team. They are designed to challenge the perception of the roll of the team within the organisation, and the individuals within the team. Member have the opportunity to step into different rolls and try on new behaviors for size.
Once these has been explored, it’s all brought together in planning and communications workshop putting the learning into practice. The result of this planning is a coherent strategy that all members can get behind and can use as a metric for success going forward.
Follow up support and accountability is provided to measure results, the teams progress and position within the organisation.
